Homeschool Field Trips in Southeast Texas

Are you looking for a great place to extend your child’s learning? Southeast Texas offers a variety of destinations for a homeschool co-op field trip, an outing for your closest homeschool families, or a minivan full of ponytails and snaggled-tooth little boys.

Let’s take a virtual field trip and explore some of SETX’s best educational resources.

First stop on the trip is Museum of the Gulf Coast in Port Arthur, Texas.

Since 1964, the museum has featured exhibits of local personalities, talents, media, historic archives and more. They host tours for school groups and other events for the Southeast Texas area. All tours are led by a docent guide and last approximately 1 1/2 hours. The standard museum tour includes two floors of permanent exhibits in addition to our featured temporary exhibitions. Guided tours are for groups of 10 or more only.  These groups must be booked in advance for the group rate and to ensure a docent. PLEASE NOTE: If your group is more than 30 minutes late, you are not guaranteed a docent guided tour.Museum Of The Gulf Coast, Port Arthur, texas

More than sixty musicians are featured in the Museum’s Music Hall of Fame. The rich cultural crossroads of the Gulf Coast has created a unique mix of musical talent representing nearly every genre including rock, blues, soul, pop, western swing, jazz and country. The Sports Legends Gallery features accomplished athletes from the Gulf Coast. Nearly every sport is recognized including football, baseball, golf, tennis, track and field, boxing, weightlifting, martial arts, motor cross racing and much more! In addition to our well-known musicians and athletes, the Museum of the Gulf Coast also showcases the many politicians, soldiers, actors, movie producers, activists, inventors, and other “notable people” who have called this region home. From chemist A.M. McAfee’s work refining high-octane gasoline to actress Evelyn Keyes’ performance in Gone With the Wind, the Gulf Coast boasts many individuals who have achieved great success in their respective fields.  Inductees to this gallery include Major General Harold E. Collins, the pilot who first demonstrated breaking the sound barrier,  Police Academy actor G.W. Bailey, Shrek and Toy Story animator Kelly Asburyand whistleblower Karen Silkwood… just to name a few.

To ensure a date and docent availability we recommend that school groups schedule tours at least two weeks in advance. For our busy spring season it is recommended that tours are scheduled as early as possible.
